Bear Napa, the first resident of the Arosa Bear Sanctuary, was diagnosed with epilepsy in June 2020. Napa recovered well from September onwards. He once again shared the enclosure with Amelia and Meimo and, as before, was able to prevail over both conspecifics in most cases. Unfortunately, on October 20, he had another epileptic seizure and the dosage of medication was immediately increased. However, the effect was less than before and Napa's well-being was severely limited.

The analysis of the responsible veterinarians* showed that further treatments had the least chance of success and that Napa was obviously suffering. This conclusion led the FOUR PAWS management, in close consultation with the responsible veterinarians and keepers of the Arosa Bear Sanctuary, to the decision to relieve Napa of his suffering at the age of 14 years.

"We are all dismayed and infinitely saddened by this great loss," says Pascal Jenny, President of the Arosa Bear Foundation. "With Napa we have lost the first Arosa Bear with great charisma. Napa's history and its behavioural development moved the hearts of all bear lovers".
