FOUR PAWS

FOUR PAWS is the global animal welfare organisation for animals directly impacted by humans, which recognises abuse, saves animals in danger, and protects them. The organisation, which was founded in Vienna in 1988 by Heli Dungler and friends, advocates for a world in which humans treat animals with respect, empathy and understanding. With offices in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Great Britain, Kosovo, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, Thailand, the Ukraine, the USA and Vietnam, as well as conservation centres for animals in need in eleven countries, FOUR PAWS provides rapid assistance and long-term solutions.

The long-term campaigns and projects managed by FOUR PAWS concentrate on domestic animals, such as stray dogs and cats, livestock, and wild animals - such as bears, big cats, orang-utans and elephants - which are kept in unsuitable conditions and in regions facing catastrophe and conflict.

We actively strive for the humane treatment of stray dogs and cats and for better living conditions for domestic animals and livestock. We establish and operate conservation centres around the world in which wild animals rescued from abusive captivity can find a species-appropriate home.

FOUR PAWS is solution-focussed and provides rapid assistance directly to animals in need.

Our goal is to achieve and establish changes to benefit animals through politics, the economy, and society - with projects, campaigns and educational work.

The foundation of our work is thorough research. The work of FOUR PAWS is based on scientific knowledge and we cooperate closely with experts, mainly from the fields of medicine, agriculture, biology and law

Reveal

FOUR PAWS reveals animals facing inappropriate and life-threatening situations. FOUR PAWS reveals abuses, develops appropriate solutions and drives them forward for the best possible implementation.

Our projects, campaigns and also information and lobby work for the conservation of animals directly impacted by humans inform, raise awareness, and clarify relevant topics.

We have an international network, carry out intensive research work, and constantly develop

new ideas. In this way, we bring about changes in mindsets and legislation.

Rescue

FOUR PAWS rescues animals in need from around the world who are directly impacted by humans, and reduces and ends the suffering of animals through continuing help and medical care.

FOUR PAWS takes concrete steps, mobilises people, changes

consumer habits and brings about changes in legislation in order to achieve long-term solutions in

animal conservation.

FOUR PAWS works to combat illegal practices and to promote responsible treatment of animals. We work with authorities and governments around the world to introduce changes to legislation that improve the lives of millions of animals.

Protect

FOUR PAWS offers wild animals such as big cats, bears, orang-utans and elephants, which have been rescued from unsuitable living conditions around the world, a safe home in the conservation centres operated by FOUR PAWS.

FOUR PAWS fights for ethically and morally proper behaviour towards animals and advocates compliance with standards and the establishment of animal conservation labels.

Partnerships with countries and municipalities aim to ensure that animals are protected by statutes and regulations, and that this legislation is strictly observed and implemented. We see this as a foundation for achieving justice and fairness towards animals and restoring order.

Conservation centres

At our conservation centres and partner projects in Austria, German, Ukraine, Kosovo, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Switzerland and South Africa, we offer a safe home to wild animals such as big cats, bears, orang-utans and elephants which have been rescued from living conditions that are not suitable for their species.

Stay animal care

In many countries, stray animals are viewed with contempt and are often mistreated. Our neutering projects for strays help in long term. Neutering animals limits the number of strays, and medical care prevents diseas and eidemics.
